Everyone wants to protect their home from threats, and there are many threats out there. There are many types of alarms available to alert you to such threats, but it may be difficult to know which alarms to prioritize. Here are some alarms that you should definitely have in your home to keep you and your family safe.
A Smoke Detector
A smoke detector is an absolute must to have in any home. However, having only one smoke detector will not be enough. It is recommended that you install a smoke detector on every floor in your house, inside every bedroom and outside every bedroom in the hallway. For example, if you have a two-story house with four bedrooms on the upper floor, you would need four smoke detectors in each of the rooms, one outside the rooms and an additional one on the main floor. The bigger the home, the more smoke detectors you will need. While it may seem like a hassle to buy so many detectors, it is worth it because one smoke detector cannot always detect smoke in another room.
Another important detector to have in your home is a carbon monoxide detector. Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas that is odorless and only detected when you feel a headache or dizziness. It can be very lethal, which is why it is important to have a carbon monoxide detector in your home. There are many appliances in your home that can produce carbon monoxide. These appliances include gas stoves, fireplaces, clothes dryer, water heater, the furnace or boiler, among others. It is important to have a carbon monoxide detector on at least every floor of your home, including the basement.
Another detector that is important to have in your home is a home security system. There are many benefits to having a home security system, such as being notified of a burglary, watching for fires in the home, turning off appliances or lights if you leave something on and travel out of town, as well as being able to monitor your home 24/7. In addition, burglars are less likely to break into your home if you have a security system.
It’s important to do everything you can to make sure that you can stay safe while in your home. While it may be a hassle to buy and install all of these types of detectors, they really are a necessity in order to protect your home from threats.
